Bighton
What a pretty little village this is, we came upon this accidentally while driving around the Old Alresford area one Sunday afternoon and had to return to have another look at the little Norman church that is tucked away behind the trees up a lane.

Bighton is a parish and a village set in the hundred of Bishop's Sutton. and is about 2 miles to the northeast of New Alresford which is its post town

The tower of All Saints  has a bell that dates back to the 15th century and large grey stone Norman font. the piscina which has a canopy  was made in the 13th century and an old pillar piscina can be found close to the door. There are arcades with strong circular pillars and decorated capitals and they are about 750 years old.

The ceiling is beautifully decorated with roses and a lot of gold gilding, and this with the screen was designed by Sir Ninian Comper, who also introduced the glass in the west window.

As is said above the church is up a small track that leads on to Bighton Manor and can be easily missed by the motorist, but there is a sign pointing to it. The Manor looks quite impressive behind large iron gates.

We stopped off for a quick drink and sandwiches at The Three Horseshoes and had a warm welcome by the landlord, and can be recommended to all who visit the village. There is ample parking here and the general air of the village is of peace and tranquillity, broken only by the occasional sound of a tractor engine or somebody on the other side of the valley shooting.
