| Broomy |
| Broomy township, which lies about 4 miles
northeast of Ringwood, was constituted by an order of the Poor Law Board
on 23rd November 1868 and in later years it was added to the Ringwood
Union and is composed of places which were extra parochial and include,
Broomy Lodge, Broomy New Enclose Cottage, Linford, Linford New Enclosure
Cottage, Linwood, Roe Enclosure Cottage, Shobley and Holly Hatch all in
the New Forest and in 1871 there was a population of 130 souls. Broomy Pound would be top of a list of the Seven Wonders of the New Forest as the pound itself with a complex set of run in fences, gates and rails has been completely rebuilt with no regard to expense, and a good show of craftsmanship can be seen in its construction The original pound was demolished in 1965 and was made of sleepers and fir rails. |
