Silton

Is a tiny village that lies near to the Somerset border,3 miles northwest of Gillingham and the church is dedicated to St Nicholas and inside can be found a large memorial to Sir Hugh Wydham who was a Justice of the Commong  Pleas at the time Charles II was on the throne, St Hugh is at the centre with his wives on either side. This huge monument was built by John Nost of  Tring and is dated abut 1792, he was one of the most famous sculptors of the day and also sculpted the monument to the Digbys in Sherborne Abbey.
