| Winfrith Newburg |
| Winfrith Newburg is a rather large
parish 8 mile southwest of Wareham and its church is dedicated to St
Christopher and i 1854 was fully restored and enlarged and a north aisle
added, but some of the Norman fabric still remains the most notable
being the north doorway. The manor originally belonged to the Newburgh family. This is what is said to be a typical Dorset village having a long street that is lined with thatched cottages that seem to have been here since time began, though some modern houses have replaced those that outlived their usefulness and had to be demolished. The village is on the Lulworth Cove and is below the High Downs. |
